Yogahour is an accessible, inexpensive ($8), expertly-taught fast-paced yoga class that offers clear and specific alignment instructions for each pose in order to promote safety. Yogahour classes are held in a ‘warm’ room (in the 80s), and each class is set to a unique soundtrack. Yogahour is an ideal class for anyone who seeks to get fit and get flexible in the context of fun. It is not appropriate for students with injuries or significant limitations.
Essentials is the ideal class for students new to yoga or for those wishing to enhance their basic knowledge of foundational yoga postures, key actions and principles of alignment. Each class begins with a centering followed by a warm up designed to link breath and movement and open up the major parts of the body. The class proceeds into guiding students into basic yoga postures that invigorate the body through increased strength, flexibility, and range of motion. Special attention is paid to easing into postures and finding proper alignment. Each class ends with a cool down followed by a final, deep relaxation.
Expanding classes build on the pose knowledge and alignment instruction taught in Essentials, and a wider variety of poses are introduced. While asana (posture) instruction focused on body alignment is emphasized, pose instruction may be combined with additional practices such as pranayama (breathing techniques) and meditation. Modifications and enhancements will be offered for a fun and safe practice, empowering each individual to his or her most inspired and playful Self.
Special Classes and Workshops
January 1, 2014 from 2:00-4:15 PM; $35 early registration or $40 within 7 days
Start your New Year with a clear vision of your sankalpa – your intention/resolve/desire – and practices for manifesting it! We will begin this New Year’s Day workshop with creative exercises designed to help you develop a powerful sankalpa that truly expresses your deepest desires and wishes for your life. Then we will explore and embody our created intention with a yogahour practice. Yogahour offers sixty sweaty minutes of pose shape, strength and stretch – it’s an ideal way to physically embrace our intentions and the work that they require for manifestation. We will end our yogahour practice with a short yoga nidra session (guided relaxation) to more deeply plant our intentions for the year to come.
